What’s waxing like in Japan vs the United States?
Japan is behind when it comes to waxing. The bikini area is no exception. In fact, some Japanese never cut or trim downstairs their entire lives. Others, only trim or shave the bikini area on occasion. Rarely do Japanese wax. Needless to say, full Brazillian is even more rare.
I remember visiting the public baths on mainland; I remember most of the ladies having wild hair down there! However, I’m noticing the younger generation in Japan, being exposed more and more to Western culture; Japanese ladies are slowly beginning to realize the benefits of waxing (e.g., exciting their partner and maintaining a clean feeling and look). Also, Japanese who have foreign partners are more likely to get waxed on a regular basis due to their partner’s preference.
Why’s this important?
Though waxing is increasing in Japan, we are still very far behind. There is, however, a professional organization (Japan Brazilian Wax Association), which requires it’s members and certificate holders to be held to similar waxing standards as America.
I hold a certificate from and I’m a member of the Japan Brazilian Wax Association. I’m also a certified wax instructor. If you have any questions about my qualifications, my waxing procedures, the products I use, or the services I provide, please do not hesitate to contact me.
What’s the studio/salon like?
I practice inside a private studio in Okinawa City, just outside Gate 2 of Kadena Air Force Base.. Waxing is done in a small private room, which is operated only by myself. I make every effort to maintain a clean and private environment for my clients.
What forms of payment do you accept?
I only accept Japanese Yen, at this time.
How should I prepare before my waxing appointment?
Preparing before a waxing appointment is very simple:
- Start using moisturizer on the area to be waxed, at least a few days before your appointment. This helps with the skin’s durability during your waxing.
- Please do not trim or shave before your appointment. If the hair is too short, it can be more challenging to remove all the hair. A length of 1/4 inch is ideal.
- Please be sure to shower before your appointment. No need to explain why 😉
- Feel free to bring your own music and headphones, if you prefer.
That’s it!!
Can I get Brazilian Wax during my period?
You can get wax during your period. You can use a tampon, and I work around it. Just remember it might feel more sensitive than usual because of hormone during your period.
Does waxing hurt?
It will feel uncomfortable, but it is only for a brief moment. Also, Everyone has different pain tolerant. That is not mean you are weak because you have low pain tolerant, it is because some people feel more pain. What you have experienced in a past, your personality, and so many things influence how people feel a pain. Another important things which can change pain level is hair types and amount of hairs you have. I believe this is the main reason for some feel less pain and some feel more pain. Just use tweezers and pull your forearm hair and under arm hair. You probably feel more pain for under arm hair. Fine hair, coarse hair, straight hair, curly hair,,, we all have different types of hair. Some people has less hair than others. So it is really depend on person. Just give it try at least 3 sessions. Because more you do it, less it hurts!! I wrote this for bikini area waxing, other part of body does’t hurt so much. Some people fall sleep during legs waxing. Again, it is only for a brief moment. If you feel nervous, just try bikini wax first. I will also give you tips during waxing. No worries!
